Release of Christians detained in Taiyuan and Beijing
08/21/2022 China (International Christian Concern) – Two heavily targeted house churches in Beijing and Taiyuan are relieved as their members were released this week from detention.
On August 18, Zong Fang Fang from Zion Church in Beijing was released after being detained for three days. Pastor Yang Jun, who was also detained on the same day as Zong, was released after a day of detention.
The two were taken on August 14 during their Sunday worship service. More than ten staff members from three different government agencies raided the location of the Mentougou church when Pastor Yang was preaching. They confiscated two computers and took away nine adults and two children.
While most of the members were released around 9 p.m. Sunday, Zong and Pastor Yang were kept in detention until this week.
In Taiyuan, Shanxi, Yao Congya, wife of detained preacher An Yankui, was released on August 19 after serving 15 days of administrative detention.
Yao was taken by authorities and detained for “illegal assembly (worship in a hotel on April 3)” on August 5 when her husband was tried for “illegal crossing of the border”. The Xuncheng Reformed Church couple were oppressed by the authorities for refusing to join the state-sanctioned Three-Self Church.
