Lalong wants more active participation of Christians in politics
Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State called on Christians to actively participate in politics and strive to contribute to national development, democratic values and good governance in Nigeria.
Speaking yesterday at the 14th annual conference of the Association of Knights and Pontifical Medalists of Nigeria, held in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, he said the conference was very timely as it addressed issues relating to leadership, recruitment and good governance in Nigerian by the political class and bureaucrats.
“Many have rightly suggested that Nigeria’s many challenges stem from poor leadership. However, many people forget or don’t realize that leadership does not begin or end with elections. It starts much earlier and continues afterwards.
“Unfortunately, many of our brothers and sisters are reluctant to get involved and instead prefer to criticize, castigate and sometimes overthrow those in power,” he said.
The Governor appreciated the Catholic Church for its strong and solid platform to encourage and urge its members to participate in politics, however adding that there is still much to be done within Christianity in Nigeria to ensure that more Christians are in decision-making positions.
