Amid the terrorist threat lurking ahead of the 75th Independence Day, Delhi Police are planning to install 1,000 Internet Protocol (IP) based cameras equipped with features such as face detection, people motion detection, tripwire, audio detection, intrusion and defocus. .

According to sources, 80% 2-megapixel IP-based CCTV cameras and 20% 4-megapixel IP-based CCTV cameras will be installed at each corner of the Red Fort, where the Independence Day celebrations will be held. .

Strategic locations for camera placement will be advised by the relevant Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) at the time of installation.

“The IP-based CCTVs will be installed in New Delhi District, Northern District, South Eastern District, Central District, Security Unit and North Western District,” the sources said.

“A large number of CCTV cameras will be installed in the North Ward and the Central Ward which covers the Red Fort area,” the sources said. Sources said that the CCTV cameras will be equipped with face detection, motion detection, tripwire, audio detection, intrusion, defocus, abandoned and missing object features. “Beyond these features, the cameras will provide a Full HD 1080P live view of locations. Real-time baseline data will also be shared for facial recognition servers,” the sources added.

With built-in infrared (IR), these cameras will incorporate a built-in autofocus 30X optical zoom lens and have 12X digital zoom capability for better exposure and detection. During the night, these cameras will cover distances of up to 150 meters.

Last year, thousands of farmers protesting the Centre’s now scrapped farm laws clashed with police in a parade of tractors on January 26. Many demonstrators, driving tractors, reached Red Fort and entered the monument. Some protesters even hoisted religious flags over one of its domes and a flagpole at the ramparts, where the national flag is flown on Independence Day.

Farmers rampaging through the city on Republic Day had raised serious questions about security arrangements for the day.

The move to install high-end cameras at city vantage points with heavy traffic should deter nefarious elements from mishaps, officials said.

Ever-changing terrorist tactics have prompted security agencies to opt for high-tech gadgets with artificial intelligence (AI) to monitor traffic and people to deter untoward incidents, officials added.
